MOONEYES Antenna Topper

A little piece of Japanese automotive culture with a lot of character.

This genuine MOONEYES antenna topper carries the instantly recognisable MOON eyeball logo — one of the most enduring symbols in custom automotive culture.

MOONEYES has its roots in American hot rod and custom car culture. Dean Moon established MOON Equipment Co. in California in the 1950s, and that legacy eventually made its way to Japan. MOONEYES first opened in Yokohama in 1986, with the now-famous MOONEYES Area-1 opening in Honmoku in 1991. The shop became a Japanese home for the distinctive Southern California style of MOONEYES, selling everything from automotive parts and accessories to clothing, goods and memorabilia.

There was even a MOON Equipped shop in Tokyo’s Ebisu district before it was relocated to Area-1 in 2005 — making the Japanese MOONEYES story particularly interesting for enthusiasts who appreciate the crossover between American custom culture and Japan’s own automotive scene.

The antenna ball became one of those instantly recognisable little MOONEYES accessories. The current Japanese range still carries the classic antenna balls in several colours, described by MOONEYES themselves as a long-established favourite.

Small, nostalgic and unmistakably MOON, it’s the sort of accessory that would look right at home on a period Japanese or American custom — or simply displayed as a little piece of automotive memorabilia.

Genuine MOONEYES item.

A small object, but a genuine connection to a much bigger automotive culture.
